First thought of this script after listening to Pink’s “13 Year Old Self”.
·
Not an autobiography, although places and themes are all from E.Nigma’s history.
·
Iyesha, Shannon, Jody, and Brianna were all girls E.Nigma knew growing up in Colorado Springs, where majority of the movie is based.
·
Karl, Lance, Sam, aren’t people the E.Nigma knows, but the letter of their first name represents somebody he does know.
·
The Paula Abdul C.D. Karl receives for his birthday was the exact gift that E.Nigma received on his birthday that same year.
·
Karl’s 1991 room is exactly as E.Nigma’s room was at that point in time, from the Lamborghini poster hanging up to the football cards on the dresser.
·
The snowball fight incident was a true event that happened to E.Nigma and a few of his friends back in the day.
·
The “Hypest white boy you know” line from White Mike was actually a year book entry from one of E.Nigma’s child hood classmates.
·
The DYA was an actual school hangout that E.Nigma and his childhood friends used to frequently visit after school. As depicted in the script, the “Y” as it was called, was used for many of the youth dances.

***********SPOILERS, DON’T READ IF YOU ACTUALLY INTEND ON READING THE SCRIPT**********************************************

·
An alternate ending had Karl going back to Colorado after he’s returned to the present time, to visit Iyesha’s grave. There he runs into Iyesha’s mother, who he admits to that he feels it’s his fault she’s dead. The ending also had Karl visiting Tony in jail to put everything behind him. It was deemed too long, so the ending was changed.
·
Another dropped scene was when Karl visited Barry in the hospital a few days after the dance. Karl and Barry reconciled their issues during that meet, and they became friends again.

13 Tidbits
13 was real fun to write, and actually had me reminiscing for a moment. I always wondered if I could go back in those days with the mentality I have now how it would turn out. I think I made an accurate portrayal of what it would be like. This is the most fun I had writing in a long time.
